THE FIRE OF FRIENDSHIP

Every afternoon, the embers are stirred
And the Fire of Friendship lives once more
It brings the Channel Country Park People together

The
camaraderie & warmth are the draw
There’s something about a campfire
That promotes a feeling of good
Especially this one here in Quilpie
That’s fuelled by the wonderful Mulga
Wood
The brightness of these flames

Which to me is the hub
And the whiteness of the ashes
The relics of the mulga
scrub
All rugged up they come with their chairs
To the warmth of the fire’s glow
Intro’s done, short life stories told
And the conversation starts to flow

A few
poems, and a few jokes too
As the smoke lifts, and a few embers fall
With numbers, address swapped
Coupled with fervent promises to call
Then the conversation wanes
And the visitors head back to town
A feeling of well being comes over the park
As the embers of the Fire of Friendship slowly die down.
